1. A space for all marginalised genders. * 'Marginalised genders' refers to people who experience prejudice and social exclusion due to their gender identity. This includes women (cis & trans inclusive), transgender men, non-binary people, and other marginalised gender identities. Team Queen has been designed as a queer-friendly space for marginalised genders; we kindly ask you to only book in for classes if you identify as such. Women outside the LGBTQ+ community are welcome.

  2. Embrace our differences & lift others up. We are a no-hate space, which means discrimination based on race, sex, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age and ethnic origin will not be tolerated. Instead, we embrace our social and cultural differences and learn from one another in order to continually make our space safer.

Gym rules

  1. Hygiene: martial arts is a contact-based sport, so please maintain good hygiene to train in close quarters with your teammates. For example, please keep clean, cut your toe nails short to avoid any cuts when kicking during sparring, and do not come to class if you are sick.

  2. Jewellery: all costume jewellery or accessories such as watches, necklaces, bracelets, etc. to be removed before training. This is to prevent cuts/scratches to yourself and your teammates. Piercings should be removed wherever possible or taped if not able to be removed.

  3. Sparring: this is a simulation of a fight, not an actual fight. All techniques must be controlled - respect your training partner and leave egos at the door!

  4. No discrimination: we try our best to make sure Team Queen is an open and safe environment. By attending our sessions, you must respect others. Our club is a NO HATE SPACE. Team Queen promotes kindness, diversity and equality in support of at-risk communities. Any discrimination will not be tolerated.

  5. Borrowing equipment: gloves and shin guards are available to borrow for any newbies who have just started training. After a week of training, please look into purchasing your own equipment as we have limited spare at our gym. If there are any financial difficulties in purchasing your own, spare gloves are always there if you need them.

  6. No shoes on the mats: this is to avoid bringing in any dirt from outside which may cause skin infections. If you leave the matted area during class to get water or to use the toilet, please put your shoes back on.

Accessibility

  • While our group classes are based at basement level with no wheelchair access, a ground level option can be arranged with Christina for private 1:1 sessions.

  • We want to make kickboxing accessible no matter your budget, so if you are unable to afford classes but wish to learn kickboxing, please contact Christina to see if there are spaces for membership reduction. (Due to limited class space and a lack of funding, we are unfortunately limited with how many reductions we can currently offer.)

Core Values at Team Queen

Thoughts behind our logo and our name..

Team queen is a female-owned martial arts club. Christina chose the name 'Team Queen' as the word Queen is often used within the queer community. While the name may sound feminine, It represents strength within the community in a sport that is traditionally male-dominated. Team Queen is dedicated to training individuals to build strength and confidence, ensuring they are taken seriously as fighters, regardless of their gender.

Our mission.

Team Queen is owned and run by Christina (she/her), who has 10+ years of experience in practicing martial arts. Her mission when creating Team Queen was to create a welcoming kickboxing space in Brighton & Hove where you will feel included, safe and part of a community. The club aims to make Martial Arts accessible to the community whilst also giving back to the community; Team Queen have previously raised money for RISE, The Anti-Harassment Club, and the LGBTQ+ rights for the Ghana support fund.
